The Steam on the Levels gala took place at the Westonzoyland Pumping Station Museum on Bank Holiday Monday, 29 August. Our Lister peat railway engine – freshly painted – and three wagons started the day parked near the entrance and were the first items that visitors saw.
Later, during a lull in passenger traffic, the Lister and the three wagons were driven out into the main display area. The chassis, with new floor, of a fourth Trust peat wagon was also to be seen and this is used on work days for transporting wood to the stationary boiler. Our sand tipper was in a second freight train with other wagons.
Providing information about the Ashcott peat railway – and the infamous collision with a train on the Highbridge branch which the peat railway crossed at right angles – was a large sign board which used to be on display at Washford.
