Description
Bulleid Battle of Britain Class No. 34053 Sir Keith Park (built 1947, with 71B Bournemouth shedplate) waits at the head of a long passenger service at Bournemouth West. A reporting code of SPL 44 is being displayed and the headcode disc positions indicate a Waterloo service.
The leading carriage set is No. 662. The Southern Railway Email Group lists this as a two car Bournemouth West set disbanded in May 1962.
To the right, Drummond M7 Class No. 30127 (built 1911) has a van and a shorter train of passenger carriages – possibly for Brockenhurst via Wimborne and Ringwood – and is blowing off, so probably due to depart ahead of 34053.
Photo taken in 1960.
34053 is shown as allocated to Bournemouth from February/March 1960 until withdrawal in October 1965. The shed was recoded to 70F in September 1963.
34053 was subsequently preserved. 30127 is shown as allocated to Bournemouth from 1955 until withdrawal in November 1963.
