Description

Fowler 2P Class No. 40697 (built 1932) and Bulleid West Country Class No. 34043 Combe Martin (built 1946) take an eight-carriage Up service (most likely a through service) past Chilcompton station. In the far distance, well beyond the station, both lines appear to have fresh ballast.

40697 is shown as already allocated to Bath Green Park upon nationalisation in 1948 and remaining there until withdrawal in February 1962. 34043 was withdrawn in June 1963.

There is no date for these photos but it is most likely to be in summer ’60 or ’61.
