Description
Great Western Collett 2251 Class No. 3215 (built 1947) and Fowler S&D 7F No. 53806 (built 1925 as S&D No. 86) have left the pair of Chilcompton Tunnels behind them and are running downhill towards Midsomer Norton South station. They’re on the 11.12 am (SO) Bournemouth-Sheffield service in August 1961. The photographer notes that the use of 3215 for piloting was rare.
Today, this point is the end of the restored line from Midsomer Norton with the cutting in the distance having been completely filled in.
3215 is shown as allocated to Templecombe from summer 1960 until withdrawal in early 1963. 53806 is shown as already allocated to Bath Green Park at the time of nationalisation in 1948 and remaining there until withdrawal in January 1964.
