Description

BR Standard Class 4 No. 75023 (built 1953, with 82G Templecombe shedplate) and BR Standard Class 4 No. 75027 (built 1954) are just short of the twin bores of Chilcompton Tunnel with an Up through service of eight carriages.

Beyond the tunnel is the infilled cutting that presents a major obstacle to further progress in the Chilcompton direction by the S&D at Midsomer Norton.

There is no indication of which service this is, or the date, but Trust records show that this loco combination worked the 11.12 am Bournemouth-Sheffield service on seven of the last eight Saturdays up to the diversion of S&D through traffic in September 1962.

75023 is shown as allocated to Templecombe from September/October 1961 until September/October 1962 and withdrawn in January 1966. 75027 is shown as being allocated to Templecombe from February 1960 to November 1962. 75027 was subsequently preserved.
