Description
BR Standard Class 4 No. 75027 (built 1954) and Bulleid West Country Class No. 34043 Combe Martin (built 1946) head a Down through service between Chilcompton Tunnel and the ‘Redan’ Bridge. These three views are particularly interesting as they are all taken at points on the line which are part of the trackbed purchased by the S&D at Midsomer Norton during 2023.
Just ahead of the train in this view is a wartime concrete ‘pill box’ which still remains today.
There is no date currently available for these images but from the locomotive allocations, they are likely to be from summer 1960, 1 or 2.
75027 is shown as being allocated to Templecombe from February 1960 to November 1962 . 75027 was subsequently preserved. 34043 was withdrawn in June 1963.
