Description

Great Western Collett 2251 Class No. 2204 (built 1939, with 82G Templecombe shedplate) hauls a two-carriage (including guard’s van) passenger service away from Cole on a bright summer day. This is almost certainly a Highbridge to Templecombe service. A figure on the platform is probably the stationmaster, about to cross the line to the signal box.

No date is given for the image but it appears to be summer 1962. Apart from the loco allocation, the visible track in the yard is more overgrown than in a John Eyers photo taken in September 1961; the Richardson photo also shows an oil drum which appears in a John Eyers photo taken in September 1962.

2204 is shown as allocated to Templecombe from May/June 1962 until withdrawal in December 1963.
