Description

Fowler S&D 7F No. 53807 (built 1925 as S&D No. 87) and Fowler 4F Class No. 44558 (built 1922 as S&D No. 58) are at the head of the nine-carriage Home Counties Railway Society (HCRS) Somerset & Dorset railtour on 7 June 1964. The tour has just run from Highbridge to Evercreech Junction and is now preparing to depart for Bath.

For more details of the railtour, see the Six Bells Junction website.

44558 is seen taking water at the column a short way south of the level crossing; this was normally used to allow locomotives on long Up freight trains to take water without fouling the level crossing.

53807 is shown as already allocated to Bath Green Park at the time of nationalisation in 1948 and remaining there until withdrawal in September 1964. 44558 is shown as already allocated to Bath Green Park at nationalisation in 1948 and remaining there right through until withdrawal in December 1964.
