Description

BR Standard Class 5 No. 73052 (built 1954) is approaching France Farm in very dull and gloomy conditions with the Up (Bath-bound) Pines Express which appears to have 12 carriages. The driver, fireman and one passenger are waving to the photographer – the footplate crew’s identity cannot be seen from the photo but the display of smoke has almost certainly been put on by request. March 1961.

The photographer notes that, after the summit had been passed at Milldown (north of Blandford), the downhill gradient enabled brisk acceleration. Hay bales are visible in the adjacent field.

73052 is shown as allocated to Bath Green Park from new until withdrawal in December 1964/January 1965.
