Description
GWR Collett 0-6-0PT No. 4691 (built Swindon 1945) is seen near Hammoon with a milk & passenger service having two carriages and two milk tanks, during April 1961.
The now-demolished Hammoon road bridge is clearly visible in the background. Note – on both sides of the track – an old fence post made of flat-bottomed rail has been incorporated into the modern railway fencing.
4691 is shown as allocated to Templecombe from January/February 1961 until withdrawal in August /September 1964.
This part of the trackbed is now a very scenic stretch of the North Dorset Trailway.
