Description

Fowler S&D 7F No. 53808 (built 1925 as S&D No. 88) and Stanier 5MT Class No. 45332 (built 1937) are pictured with an Up train of at least six carriages – almost certainly a through service – passing under the Hammoon road bridge north west of Shillingstone.

The bridge has been demolished but the trackbed is now part of the North Dorset Trailway.

Note that the quality of this image is much lower than the usual high standard.

53808 is shown as already allocated to Bath Green Park at the time of nationalisation in 1948 and remaining there until withdrawal in April 1964. Arriving at the Woodham Bros. Barry Island scrapyard in August of that year, the locomotive was rescued by the Trust in 1970 and returned to steam in 1987.

45332 is shown as allocated to locations in the Midlands and the north throughout its life.
