Description

BR 4MT Class 4-6-0 locomotive No. 75072 (built 1955, with 82F Bath Green Park shedplate) with an Up local passenger service of four carriages has just passed under the Hammoon road bridge on the way to Sturminster Newton in 1960.

Fireman Peter Smith has put on a special smoke display for the photographer and can be seen waving enthusiastically from the cab.

The bridge has been demolished but the photographer’s location is now a very scenic part of the North Dorset Trailway and the remains of the platelayers’ hut seen in this picture are readily found.

75072 is shown as being allocated to Bath Green Park from 1956 until October 1962 and withdrawn in April 1966.
