Description
This is the third railway film by Ivo Peters, originally released in 1987 on VHS video.
It has been totally remastered and there has been some minor picture and sound editing to enhance this popular volume. The original material was 16mm film with sound effects recorded by Peter Handford and Jack Newton.(The two previous volumes were of his well loved survey of the late lamented Somerset & Dorset Railway.
The first part of this volume covers the final years of steam over Shap, before the line was electrified and the M6 motorway was built. We see 9Fs, 8Fs, Black 5s, 2-6-4Ts, a Royal Scot, Britannias and others battling the gradients , taking water at speed on Dillicar Troughs, with passenger trains , parcels and freights all set against the incomparable fells, by Ivo’s masterful camera work.
The second part covers a very special rail tour in Scotland over Easter 1963. All four of the preserved Scottish pre-grouping engines are seen working: the Caledonian Single in the snow, “Glen Douglas” around Queensferry, the Jones Goods and “Gordon Highlander” on the Stranraer Road.In addition there are pre-grouping 0-6-0s in BR livery and a Black 5 in what Ivo calls his “desert island” film.
