Description
Stanier 5MT Class No. 44867 (built 1945, with 5D Stoke shedplate) pilots Bulleid West Country Class No. 34029 Lundy (built 1946) on the 12.20 pm (Saturdays-only) Bournemouth West-Nottingham service approaching the road bridge about half a mile south of Masbury station.
The photographer notes that the photo was taken in August 1962, and Trust records show that this combination of locomotives was on this service only on 4 August. Through services last ran on the S&D on 8 September 1962. The train has 10 carriages.
44867 is shown as allocated to Stoke (5D) from July/August 1961 until November 1962. 34029 is shown as allocated to Bournemouth from June 1959 until withdrawal in September 1964.
