Description

Fowler S&D 7F No. 53806 (built 1925 as S&D No. 86) heads a Down (Bournemouth-bound) 11-carriage pigeon special just short of Masbury summit.

The photograph appears to have been taken from the Roemead Road overbridge, now demolished.

At one time, there was considerable pigeon traffic on the S&D – in 1931, for example, there were 17 such trains in May and another four in June.
