Description
BR Standard Class 4 No. 75009 (built 1951, with 82G Templecombe shedplate) and BR Standard Class 9F No. 92233 (built 1958) have just passed over the summit at Masbury with a northbound passenger service, almost certainly a through service. ‘1O95’ can still be seen chalked onto 75009’s smokebox door, though by now very much weathered – see also WSHSD_2022_14_048.
The Roemead Road bridge (now demolished) is in the background and a platelayers’ hut can also be seen. A bag can be seen hanging on the fence to the right of the bridge – perhaps this is the photographer’s camera bag.
75009 is shown as allocated to Templecombe in September/October 1961 until November 1962. 92233 is shown as allocated to Bath Green Park from June/July 1962 until the following September/October. These allocations narrow the date range of the photo considerably; June-September 1962, given that through services were diverted from 10 September.
