Description

BR Standard Class 9F No. 92004 (built 1954, with 82E Bristol Bath Road shedplate) heads an Up through service over Masbury summit. A footplateman can be seen leaning well out of the cab. Note also three people on the cutting side to the left.

Note that the loco carries a reporting code disc showing 1O84 – this was for the 10.28 pm (Friday) Manchester to Bournemouth service. It appears that the disc has been left on for the Up journey on the Saturday, the 10.32 am Bournemouth to Manchester service (reporting code 1M07). Trust records show 92004 on this pair of services on 27/28 July 1962, just a few weeks before through services were diverted away from the S&D. This therefore appears to be the likely date.

92004 is shown as allocated to 82E Bristol Bath Road from January 1961 until March 1963 and withdrawn in March 1968.
