Description
A detail of the gate across the line running from the Down main to Norton Hill Colliery, probably taken in spring 1962.
The photo shows the gate bolt which passed into a locking box with the lock being released by the operation both of a lever (no. 1) in the Midsomer Norton South ground frame hut just visible beyond the gate and in the signal box (no. 5). Only once the gate was fully opened ‘right for railway’ could lever 2 in the ground frame hut be operated to move the catch point, also just visible beyond the gate, into the normal running position.
