Description

BR Standard Class 5 No. 73019 (built 1951) heads up the distinctive gradient out of Shillingstone with an eight-carriage passenger service (almost certainly a through service). A reporting number of 993 is being displayed – but note that, being chalked on, it could have been left over from an earlier service. The photo was probably taken in 1959 though this is not explicitly stated by the photographer.
