Description

BR Standard Class 4 No. 76065 (built 1956) passing the tablet apparatus on the approach to Shillingstone’s Down platform with a four-car passenger service. The fireman is leaning out with the tablet for a manual exchange as the locomotive is not fitted with the Whitaker apparatus.

Also to be seen is the porters’ hut – with three bicycles visible – the signal box and the track maintenance team’s trolley hut; note the rails running out of the hut perpendicular to the main line.

76065 was allocated to Eastleigh for the whole of its life – withdrawn in 1965. The loco has no shedplate. ‘BR 4’ has been marked onto the buffer beam.
