Description

Ivatt 2MT Class No. 41248 (built 1949, with 82G Templecombe shedplate) departing from Shillingstone’s Up platform at night, flash-lit. The signal box is to the right.

Although the photographer made no connection between this image and WSHSD_2022_14_397, close examination shows the driver to be the same.

41248 is shown as allocated to Templecombe from June/July 1953 until November/December 1960. Withdrawn in November 1964. Given the 82G shedplate, this indicates that the pair of photos was taken at some time from 1956 to 1960.

In addition, WSHSD_2022_14_103 shows an Ivatt 2MT Class at the Up platform so that photo may well have been taken on the same occasion.
