Description

BR Standard Class 9F No. 92220 (built 1960); named ‘Evening Star’ – the last steam locomotive built by BR workshops and, consequently, always destined to be preserved – takes the 3.40 pm Bournemouth-Bath service away from Wincanton in bright sunshine during August 1962.

The train, with seven carriages, is still carrying the 2B92 reporting number disc that it would have correctly had earlier in the day as 9.03 am Bristol (9.53 am Bath) to Bournemouth service.
