Trust presents Bath – Midford tablet to mark former S&D driver’s 100th year from Somerset & Dorset Railway Trust on Vimeo.
George Tucker, the oldest surviving S&D steam driver, had been expected to be on our Annual Special Train on Sunday 8 July. However, the hot weather was far from ideal for someone of such a great age.
We had something to present to him to mark his 100th year; a Bath – Midford tablet mounted on a plaque…. well, actually a replica tablet, but a very good replica!
With George not being present, the plaque was presented by Ian Young, Chairman S&DRT Ltd. [left] to Malcolm Beauchamp [right] to be forwarded to George, with a little help from Roy Larcombe [centre] who was sometimes George's fireman.
The ceremony took place at Minehead station in front of the Trust's S&D 7F No. 53808 which had just hauled the Special Train up from Bishops Lydeard.
